One of South Belfast’s most popular areas is set to welcome its brand new state-of-the-art food and retail market, with construction progressing on the former site of the Movie House Cinema.
Trademarket Belfast is set to open for the first time this summer, adding to the rich culture of bars, restaurants and cafes that already pervades this part of the city.
Work is due to be completed this month on the Dublin Road site, adding a further crown to the jewel of Belfast as the city center continues to modernize and improve.
What we can expect – Opening of a food and retail market on Dublin Road in Belfast
The new site will be located next to Bankmore Square. The market is not far from some of the most iconic places in Belfast city center such as Weatherspoons, Pug Ugly’s, Filfthies and The Points.
The outdoor market will host local food and independent retail vendors in shipping containers. There is therefore an opportunity for new and promising sellers to practice their trade in a privileged place in the city.
The focus should be on sustainability, and the project will support small businesses and support a strong community. Commitments have been made to pay staff a living wage.
Trademarket was previously known as ‘Box Office’ and proposals for the venue were made as Box Office Belfast before a trademark dispute.
What this means for the company – showcasing local talent
The site is temporarily rented by the technology company Kainos. Speaking to social media, the founder of the social enterprise which is to run the site, Will Neill, said he was “delighted” they had agreed to lease the land.
He continued: “Belfast is such an exciting and promising city and having a space like this to showcase the best of our food and retail start-ups will be fantastic for tourism and the local community.”
The seller list should be published soon. So it won’t be long before we can hit the market and see what it has to offer.
