Latvian retail trade up year on year, down month on month in May / Article

Food retail sales increased by 1.0%. Retail trade of non-food products (excluding automotive fuel retail) increased by 4.1%, but automotive fuel retail turnover – by 5.2% .

Compared to May 2020, the largest increase in turnover was recorded in the retail trade of household appliances in specialized stores (+24.8 %), the retail trade of information and communications in specialized stores (+21.2%) and retail trade in cultural and leisure goods. (17.7%). A significant drop in turnover was recorded in the retail trade of clothing, footwear and leather goods (by 15.9%) and the retail trade of hardware, instruments, building materials and sanitary equipment (2.9% ).

Total retail sales at current prices increased by 8.9% (excluding the calendar effect).

Compared to April, the total turnover of retail trade enterprises in May 2021 fell by 3.9%, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Food retail turnover decreased by 2.1%. Retail trade of non-food products (excluding automotive fuel retail) decreased by 6.4%, but automotive fuel retail turnover – by 1.1% .

Compared to April, in May 2021, total retail turnover at current prices (excluding seasonality) increased by 1.9%.
