The advance estimate, adjusted for seasonal variations and differences in holidays and working days, but not price changes, was $684.0 billion, virtually unchanged (±0.5%) from the previous month, but 8.2% (± 0.7%) above. September 2021.
U.S. retail sales for September 2022 were down 0.1% (±0.4%) month-on-month, but up 7.8% (±0.7%) year-on-year. Total sales for the July-September 2022 period increased 9.2% (±0.5%) from the same period a year ago, according to preliminary estimates from the US Census Bureau of Retail Sales and of foodservice in the United States for September 2022.
The percentage change from July 2022 to August 2022 has been revised upward from 0.3% (±0.5%) to 0.4% (±0.2%), the US Census Bureau said.
Gas stations increased by 20.6% (±1.6%) compared to September 2021, while non-store retailers increased by 11.6% (±1.1%) compared to the year last.
