On the year to July, among stores selling manufactured goods, the largest increase was recorded in the turnover of “other non-specialized stores”, i.e. department stores, where the turnover business increased by 9%, according to Statistics Estonia.
Turnover increased by 8% in second-hand shops and non-store retail (stalls, markets, direct sales), 6% in pharmacies and cosmetics stores, 3% for other specialized stores mainly selling computers and their accessories, books, sporting goods, games, toys, etc., and 2% in stores selling by mail order or on the Internet.
Sales were down 2% for stores selling housewares and appliances, hardware and building materials. With stores selling textiles, clothes and shoes, turnover remained at the same level as in July last year.
Statistics Estonia uses VAT return data from the Estonian Tax and Customs Agency (MTA) as the basis for compiling the above survey, which it conducts on behalf of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications.
