In June 2022 compared to June 2021, the retail sales index adjusted for calendar effects fell by 3.7% in the euro area and by 2.8% in the EU.
In June 2022, the seasonally adjusted volume of retail trade fell by 1.2% in the euro area and by 1.3% in the EU compared to May 2022, according to Eurostat estimates, the statistical office of the European Union. In May 2022, retail trade volume increased by 0.4% in the euro area and by 0.2% in the EU.
In the euro area in June 2022, compared to May 2022, the volume of retail trade fell by 2.6% for non-food products, and it also fell by 2.6% in the EU, indicated Eurostat.
Among the Member States for which data are available, the largest monthly falls in total retail trade volume were recorded in Denmark (-3.8%), the Netherlands (-3.4%) and Estonia (-2.4%). Increases were observed in Ireland and Malta (+0.5% each), Finland (+0.3%) and Austria (+0.2%).
Compared to June 2021, the retail trade volume of non-food products in June 2022 decreased by 4.8% in the euro area and by 3.9% in the EU.
Among the Member States for which data are available, the largest annual falls in total retail trade volume were recorded in Denmark (-9.5%), Germany and Ireland (-8.8% each) and in the Netherlands (-6.1%). The highest increases were observed in Slovenia (+22.1 percent), Poland (+9.3 percent) and Cyprus (+8.4 percent).
