With the easing of Covid-related restrictions after the third wave, the retail sector is seeing growth from pre-pandemic levels.
According to the monthly retail survey conducted by the Retailers Association of India, the retail sector reported that sales in March 2022 recorded a growth of 28% compared to March 2021 and 12% compared to March 2021. compared to March 2019.
Kumar Rajagopalan, CEO of the Retailers Association of India (RAI), said: “The removal of pandemic-related restrictions has resulted in overall retail growth across all regions and categories, including categories that were previously showing low sales like clothes and shoes. ”
“However, when looking at performance, one has to consider inflation embedded in most products like apparel, electronics and some FMCG products,” he added.
Steady growth trajectory
In March 2022, the survey noted that Western India showed 37% growth (YOY), North India showed 28% growth (YOY), Eastern India showed 26% growth ( YOY) and South India. indicated 21 percent (YOY).
Offices have resumed normal working hours and consumers are heading out to catch up on their social life. “Retailers hope that quantitative growth will be restored and business will return to a steady growth trajectory in fiscal 2022,” RAI added.
