March 10, 2022 (MLN): Pakistan’s retail sector contributes 18% of GDP and employs 16% of the workforce, Razzak Dawood, Razzak Dawood Trade Advisor, said at the 1st Future of Retail Business Summit (FOR2022) co-hosted by Terrabiz Conferences and Chain stores Association of Pakistan (CAP) in Karachi on Wednesday.
One of the main objectives of the summit was to bring Pakistan’s diverse retail sector together under one cohesive platform.
The adviser said the retail sector was key to fueling support sectors such as construction and transport. He further said that the growth of the retail sector is a strong indicator of development and progress in the country.
Industry stalwarts used the cross-industry key stakeholder platform to identify areas where collaboration could be established and improvements could benefit growth. The global representation of business and technology allowed attendees to imagine how they could shape the future of their retail brands and be part of this accelerating ecosystem. Retail legends such as Seema Irfan, Founder of Bareeze and Founder of Al Fatah Stores, Irfan Shaikh shared their perspective on the challenges they faced building brands and serving customers in Pakistan.
An underlying theme that has been highlighted in addition to the future of retail is how resilient brands have survived the challenges of the pandemic and become more customer-centric when reopening. The conference was supported by the Pakistan Fintech Association, [email protected] and AF Fergusson & Co. as knowledge partners.
The sessions were chaired by august speakers such as Steve Dennis (Amazon Bestseller Author); Nadeem Hussain (PFN), Amir Paracha (Unilever); Saira Awan Malik (TCS); Faisal Riaz (Dolmen Mall); Seema Aziz (Sefam;); Shamoon Sultan (Khaadi), Ehsan Saya (Daraz), Ibad Ahmed (PandaMart), guest of honor Mr. Azfar Ahsan (Board of Investment) among many industry leaders in retail, brands, e-commerce, fintech and taxation. In a special video address at the summit, Commerce Advisor Razzak Dawood expressed his appreciation for the conference and how the event would play a vital role in shaping the future of retail in Pakistan.
