Latvia’s retail volume up 3.7% – Baltic News Network

Compared with August 2020, the total turnover of retail trade increased by 3.7% in August 2021. The turnover of food retailing decreased by 3.8%. Non-food retail trade (except automotive fuel retail) grew 9.8%, but automotive fuel retail turnover – 3.5% .

Compared with August 2020, the most notable increase in turnover was recorded in the retail trade in mail order houses or via the Internet (by 40.6%), the retail sale of household appliances in stores specialist (18.1%) and retail trade in cultural and leisure goods (16.8%), according to calendar corrected data compiled by the Central Statistical Office of Latvia (CSB).

The decrease in turnover was recorded in the retail trade of information and communication material in specialized stores (by 2.0%).

Total retail turnover at current prices increased by 8.7% (excluding calendar influence).

Compared with July, in August 2021, the total turnover of companies in the retail trade increased by 0.3%, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Food retailing sales declined 1.1%. Non-food retail trade (except automotive fuel retail) grew 2.7%, but automotive fuel retail sales fell 3.2 %.

Compared to the previous month, the strongest growth in turnover was observed in the retail trade of cultural and leisure articles (by 28.4%), the retail trade of clothing, footwear and leather goods (7 , 1%) and non-specialized stores selling mainly non-food products (5.5%).

The largest decrease in turnover was recorded in retail sales on stalls or markets (by 13.6%).

Compared with July, in August 2021, total retail turnover at current prices (excluding seasonality) decreased by 0.4%.
