Regarding the performance of the sub-sectors, Mohd Uzir said that the growth of the wholesale sub-sector of 6.8% in November 2021 was supported by other specialist wholesalers, which increased by 7.6%. % or 1.6 billion ringgit to 22.1 billion ringgit.

“This was followed by the wholesaling of food, drink and tobacco products with 11.2 percent to register RM11.4 billion,” he said.

Likewise, he said, the wholesale of agricultural raw materials and live animals also increased by 15.5% to reach RM 4.7 billion, due to the rise in raw material prices. .

“For a month-to-month comparison, sales in this subsector increased 1.0 percent,” he explained.

Regarding the retail sub-sector, he said the 6.7% increase was attributed to retail sales in non-specialized stores, which recorded an increase of 9.9% or 1.6 billion euros. ringgit to 17.7 billion ringgit.

At the same time, other groups in this sub-sector also recorded positive growth, namely retail sales of automotive fuels (18.2%), retail sales of household goods (6.4%), retail sales of food, beverages and tobacco (9.1%), retail sales other than stores, stalls or on the market (28.4%), retail sales of cultural and recreational goods (4, 5%), retail sales of information and communication material (0.8%) and retail sales in stalls and markets (11.6%).

However, he also said retail sales at specialty stores remained negative for a sixth consecutive month at -1.0%.

“For monthly comparison, retail trade grew 3.4% with all groups in this subsector showing positive growth,” he said.

Additionally, Mohd Uzir said the 8.6% growth in the motor vehicle subsector for the month was attributed to motor vehicle sales, which continued their double-digit growth of 11.8% or 0 , RM9 billion to RM8.1 billion. .

Motorcycle sales, maintenance and repair followed at 9.4% for a record 1.2 billion RM.

Likewise, sales of motor vehicle parts and accessories and motor vehicle maintenance and repair rebounded to post positive increases of 2.9% and 4.0%, respectively.

“However, on a monthly basis, sales of this sub-sector fell by -1.9%, driven by sales of motor vehicles which registered -10.4%,” he said.

Mohd Uzir said the Internet retail sales index grew 21.0% year-on-year (October 2021: 20.7%), while for the seasonally adjusted value, the index a increased by 5.4% compared to the previous month.

In terms of volume index, wholesale and retail trade registered an annual growth of 2.9%.

He added that the expansion was attributed to motor vehicles, which rose 5.2 percent, followed by retail at 3.3 percent.
